Charity
Helping those in need – it's what Jesus was all about when he walked the dusty roads of Palestine. And since I want to follow in His footsteps and become more like Him, I want to look out for those I can help, too. I believe that most of our compassion and charity is, and should be, performed in quiet everyday acts, unknown-to-others. However, there is also a critical place for organized charities, including groups that have the capability to accomplish much on a larger scale. There are a few causes so near and dear to my heart that I plan community events to gather donations to further their efforts.
Adoption Station and Christmas Box House
The Adoption Station is an affectionate term I use to refer to agencies who specialize in adoption services. Our own Dye-agram Books even has a story about adoption that we titled (appropriately enough), The Adoption Station. It is through the miracle and beauty of adoption that our six precious children came to us. What more need I say to express my deep appreciation and connection to such wonderful places like the Christmas Box House (and many others)! One of my most heartfelt passions is helping a child who needs a family and home. Donating to reputable agencies is one of the best ways I know to help relieve the pains of these suffering children.

Chase for Charity
Combining my love of running with my desire to be involved in worthy charitable causes, in 2009 I formed a non-profit organization called the Chase for Charity Club, which hosts fun races to gather contributions to donate to local and international charities. The first and foremost running event of CFC, the Temple to Temple Steeplechase, takes place yearly in South Jordan, Utah (see below). CFC has also organized and sponsored monthly "mile-athons" with proceeds benefiting worthy causes and charitable institutions.

The Kitchen Powwow and Utah Food Bank
A healthy lifestyle, including diet and exercise, is an area that requires constant vigilance on my part. The support of friends has been invaluable in my quest to achieve and maintain my health goals. The Kitchen Powwow was established to provide an informal support group to encourage each other along the path of becoming fit. Once a week a small group of friends gathers in the kitchen for some good old-fashioned encouragement, bringing an item to donate to the Utah Food Bank. I created a convenient little tracker to record daily diet, exercise, and a few other things. We print it out and cut it up into a little pocketsize pamphlet, then keep it close all week.
Temple Steeplechase and LDS Temple Patron Fund
My family means everything to me. I am linked with my parents, my husband, and my children in such a way that our relationship will continue beyond the grave. How could it be otherwise? A loving Father in Heaven has provided the way for husband and wife and their children to be bound together forever through sacred ordinances in His holy house – the Temple. To make that possible The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is building Temples at a tremendous pace across the globe. But even though these sacred edifices dot the earth, there are many faithful members of the Church in remote locales who are unable to travel to the temple because of expense. For many of us the temples require little or no sacrifice to attend. I live in South Jordan, Utah, the first city in the world to have two temples. Both are within walking (or running) distance of my home. So it seems to me like I could do a little something to help another family get to the temple, if only for once in their lifetime. Celebrating these glorious temples was my motivation for starting the annual Temple to Temple Steeplechase, a five mile course filled with symbolism and spiritual meaning.
