Why do books and art go so well together? Why does music add such depth to our emotions? And when we experience art, and literature, and music of a refined nature, how is it we are transported to a higher realm with the desire to do and be more? These are questions I often ask myself, and I often find the answers through other people. A speech given by Elder Douglas L. Callister, of the Second Quorum of the Seventy of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, (BYU devotional address, Sept. 19, 2006) has had a profound influence upon me. I hope you will take the time to read and ponder it: Our Refined Heavenly Home
When I look at my little spot in the world I don't imagine achieving great worldly accomplishment or adding so much as a dot to annals of history, but I do believe we each have an affect on those whose lives intersect or run side by side with our own. In regards to books and literature what can we do to have a positive affect? What can I do? As I have asked myself this question I realize there is much I can do (even if it's in a small and simple way). I can keep a record of my own life and that of my family. I can research the names of my ancestors and bring their stories to life for my children and children's children. I can use what talents I have to add a bit of cheerfulness or bring a sparkle of gladness to another. I can use my own unique voice to promote goodness. I love doing that! And so I shall!
Simple is a way to describe me. I like simple. I am simple. I write simple (and it takes me a long time to do it). I am also genuine. I hope that comes across in all I do. I am myself, trying to be a better self (and loving the crazy process). What a great journey we are all on! Life! And life is good!
So, enjoy my writings if they interest you. But better yet, enjoy your own!
